The Republican plan is for renters to be evicted.

Our side is corrupt, but the other side is more corrupt.

The main reason Republicans are not extending the eviction moratorium is to suppress the votes of poor people. After finding a new place to live, evicted people will have only a few weeks to change their address information on voter registration forms. And Republicans will know which votes to target with accusations of fraud.

Republicans are the party of dirty tricks. Their base loves dirty tricks–the dirtier the better (Lee Atwater and Roger Stone).

Why aren’t Democrats calling out Republicans for this strategy? If they are too stupid to see the Republican plan, they deserve to lose. I hope Democrats are ready with assistance for evicted renters.

I’m not denying Republicans might welcome this effect of mass evictions, but they don’t need it to support evictions. They have always opposed government action to ameliorate the effects of recessions. In the Great Depression, the advice given to Herbert Hoover by his Secretary of the Treasury Andrew Mellon was, “Liquidate labor, liquidate stocks, liquidate the farmers. … It will purge the rottenness out of the system.”

I realize mine is a conspiracy theory. Let’s just see if this effect is part of the puzzle in November.
